Obsidian can connect your ideas, projects, research, goals, and everything you learn inside one private system that becomes more valuable every day.
Here’s how to build it from zero 👇🏽
1. WHAT OBSIDIAN ACTUALLY IS
Obsidian is a free knowledge-base app that stores your notes as normal Markdown files inside a folder called a Vault.
Your notes remain on your device, work offline, and can still be opened with other text editors.
The main app is free. Obsidian Sync and Publish are optional paid services.

2. BUILD ONE SIMPLE VAULT
Create one Vault and use this structure:
00 — Inbox
01 — Daily Notes
02 — Projects
03 — Areas
04 — Resources
05 — Archive

Attachments
Don’t create 50 folders before writing anything.
Capture first. Organize during your weekly review.
3. ACTIVATE THE USEFUL CORE FEATURES
Open Settings → Core plugins and activate:

• Bookmarks
Start with Obsidian’s built-in features before installing community plugins.
4. USE ONE NOTE TEMPLATE
Add this to your Templates folder:

The goal is not to make beautiful notes.
The goal is to make useful notes you can find and act on later.
5. CONNECT YOUR KNOWLEDGE
Whenever one note mentions another idea, connect them using:
[[Name of the other note]]
Obsidian automatically shows backlinks, so you can see every note that references the current idea.
Example:

[[Monetization]]
Over time, isolated notes become a network of knowledge.
6. SAVE USEFUL INFORMATION PROPERLY
Install the official Obsidian Web Clipper:

It can save articles, highlights, references, recipes, and research as local Markdown files.
For every saved item, add:
• The useful idea
• Why you saved it
• Your interpretation
• The next action
• Related notes
Collecting links is not building a second brain.
Thinking about them is.
7. USE THIS DAILY SYSTEM
During the day:
• Capture ideas inside Inbox
• Write tasks inside the relevant project
• Save useful research
• Link related notes
• Record decisions inside Daily Notes
Once a week:
• Empty the Inbox
• Review active projects
• Connect unlinked notes
• Archive finished material
• Choose next actions
Ten minutes of maintenance is enough to keep the system useful.
8. USE OBSIDIAN WITH CLAUDE
The simple method:
1. Create a Claude Project for one area of your life or work.
2. Upload selected notes as supported text files, or paste their contents into the Project knowledge.
3. Tell Claude what the notes contain and how you want them used.
4. Ask Claude to find patterns, contradictions, missing information, and next actions.
5. Save the useful result back inside Obsidian.
Don’t upload private information you would not want processed by an external AI service.
9. THE ADVANCED CLAUDE WORKFLOW
Because an Obsidian Vault contains local text files, advanced users can open Claude Code inside a COPY of the Vault folder.
Use Manual permission mode and review every proposed change.
Claude can help you:
• Organize Inbox notes
• Suggest internal links
• Find duplicate notes
• Create summaries
• Add missing properties
• Build topic indexes
• Turn research into plans
• Convert notes into content
Always back up your Vault before allowing any AI tool to edit multiple files.

ORGANIZE:
“Review these notes and group them by topic. Suggest a simple folder structure without deleting or rewriting any original information.”
CONNECT:
“Find meaningful connections between these notes. Suggest the exact Obsidian internal links I should add and briefly explain each connection.”
CREATE:
“Use only the information inside these notes to create 10 content ideas. For each idea, cite the note that inspired it and identify any missing information.”
REVIEW:
“Analyze my notes from this week. Identify repeated ideas, unfinished tasks, contradictions, and the three highest-value actions for next week.”
