After more than a decade of waiting, WORLD WAR Z 2 is officially happening.

Paramount Pictures has confirmed that a sequel to the 2013 global zombie blockbuster is now in development, bringing new life to a project many fans believed had been permanently abandoned. For years, the sequel was surrounded by reports of cancellations, creative changes, and behind-the-scenes uncertainty, making its return one of the biggest surprises in recent horror news.

The original World War Z, led by Brad Pitt, became one of the highest-grossing zombie films ever released, earning over $540 million worldwide and introducing audiences to its unforgettable swarms of fast-moving infected. Its large-scale action, global scope, and relentless tension helped redefine what a modern zombie blockbuster could look like.

Despite its success, the sequel spent years trapped in development limbo, with numerous updates coming and going without ever reaching production. That long silence left many fans convinced the franchise was over for good. Paramount’s confirmation changes that completely, reopening the door to one of horror’s biggest dormant franchises.

For now, the studio has not revealed a release date, plot details, or casting information, leaving plenty of questions about who will return and where the story will go next. Still, after years of uncertainty, the most important update is finally here.

Sometimes the biggest sequel announcement isn’t the one that arrives quickly. It’s the one fans never stopped hoping would happen.
