Fernandes beat a star-studded shortlist featuring Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki of Manchester City, and Arsenal trio Declan Rice, David Raya and Gabriel Magalhães to claim the prestigious prize.
The Manchester United skipper enjoyed a phenomenal campaign, registering a Premier League-record 21 assists alongside nine goals, helping his team finish third and secure Champions League football.
His record-breaking creativity was a major factor in his success. Fernandes’ 21 assists surpassed the previous Premier League record of 20, highlighting just how influential he was in United’s attacking play throughout the season.
What makes the achievement even more special is that the award is voted for by fellow professional footballers. It represents recognition from the very players who competed against Fernandes throughout the campaign.
