THE HAND OF DANTE is officially coming to Netflix on June 24

THE HAND OF DANTE is officially coming to Netflix on June 24, and this might be one of the most fascinating and ambitious films the streamer has released all year.

Blending crime, history, mystery and religion into one massive story, the film follows a dangerous hunt for the original handwritten manuscript of Dante’s Divine Comedy, while simultaneously telling the story of Dante Alighieri himself as he creates one of the most influential literary works ever written. It’s the kind of project that feels completely different from anything else currently on Netflix.

The film stars Oscar Isaac in a dual role and features an absolutely stacked cast that includes Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Gerard Butler, Al Pacino, John Malkovich and Martin Scorsese. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Julian Schnabel, the movie has been years in the making and is based on the bestselling novel by Nick Tosches.

What makes the project even more intriguing is its unusual structure. One storyline unfolds in the modern world involving criminals, collectors and scholars chasing a priceless manuscript, while the other takes viewers back to 14th-century Italy to witness the creation of The Divine Comedy itself.
